Public Domain

Public domain means a creative work is NOT protected by copyright and may be used freely without permission.

Find public domain resources using Google and include the phrase "public domain" in your search, e.g., "public domain books," "public domain images" or "public domain sheet music."

Use the Public Domain Works database to locate sources.

Creative Commons

Creative Commons "is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to making it easier for people to share and build upon the work of others, consistent with the rules of copyright. CC provides free licenses and other legal tools to mark creative work with the freedom the creator wants it to carry, so others can share, remix, use commercially, or any combination thereof."
