This plagiarism game from Snowden Library, Lycoming College, is a fun way for undergraduate students to learn the basics of plagiarism in a non-threatening game environment.

This is a full-fledged tutorial aimed at helping students to understand what plagiarism is and how to avoid accidental plagiarism. The lesson explains what plagiarism is, and briefly discusses its legal and ethical consequences. Most importantly, it suggests note taking, documentation, and writing strategies to help students avoid accidental plagiarism. The tutorial is followed by a ten question quiz that both scores the students’ answers and supplies feedback.

Users learn what plagiarism means and why it should be avoided, and when and how to cite sources. The interactive quiz was developed as a faculty resource for addressing academic honesty violations, but it also serves as an any-time tutorial for learning how to avoid plagiarism.

Research-based writing in American institutions, both educational and corporate, is filled with rules that writers, particularly beginners, aren't aware of or don't know how to follow. Many of these rules have to do with research and proper citation. Gaining a familiarity of these rules, however, is critically important, as inadvertent mistakes can lead to charges of plagiarism, which is the uncredited use (both intentional and unintentional) of somebody else's words or ideas.

Through this interactive tutorial a college student discovers what plagiarism is and how to avoid it. When she paraphrases someone's work without givinghim credit her professor helps her understand why this is not acceptable and how to correct it. Other experts, including faculty, librarians, and the Vice President for Student Life explain why citing is important, when to cite, and the consequences for plagiarism.

The Virtual Academic Integrity Laboratory (VAIL) is a portal to assist students in understanding academic integrity standards and avoid accusations of plagiarism by learning proper documentation and research methods. VAIL provides education and resources to enable students to produce quality scholarship at their respective institutions.
VAIL is a dynamic resource that allows for feedback from patrons via bulletin boards and chat rooms. These tools are available on the site so that students may dialogue with each other and get expert help dealing with academic integrity.
