Washburn University students, faculty and staff may borrow a laptop at the Circulation/Reserve Desk for use in Mabee Library only. A valid WUID is required.
Laptops are available on a first-come first-served basis for up to two hours.
How can I borrow a laptop?
You will need a valid Washburn University ID Card (WUID Card) and your library account must be in good standing. You will be asked to complete a Laptop Loan Agreement the first time you borrow a laptop. Once completed, the agreement is valid for the current academic semester.
What are my responsibilities?
You are responsible for safe use of the laptop ... never leave the laptop unattended. You are responsible for repair and replacement costs if the laptop or any of its accessories are lost, damaged or stolen while checked out in your name ... regardless whether the damage is caused by you or someone else. Laptops must be returned by the time due but no later than one hour before library closing. Hand the laptop to a staff person at the Circulation/Reference Desk and wait for a receipt. The return process will take about 10 to 15 minutes.
What programs are on the laptop?
Each laptop is equipped with standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), Sophos Antivirus, and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
How do I login into the laptop?
Login using your WUAD account and password.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
You need a valid WUAD account and password to use the laptop. If you have not yet activated your WUAD account, if your password has expired or if you have forgotten the password, visit your my.washburn homepage. You may do this at any public terminal in the library. If you are unable to resolve the problem at this website, contact the University Technology Support Center at 670-3000.
Where can I use the laptop?
You can use the laptop on any floor in Mabee Library. Laptops may not be taken outside the library. The strength of your wireless signal may vary depending on the distance from our wireless access points and on factors such as humidity and proximity to metal (for example, our library shelves). If your wireless signal is weak, try moving to another area.
Should I save my work to the laptop hard drive?
No. Files saved on the laptop hard drive are automatically deleted when you log off the laptop. Instead, save your files on a USB flash drive. Mabee Library is not responsible for finding or retrieving files saved to the laptop hard drive. If you are having problems saving your files, staff at the Reference/Circulation/Course Reserves Desk can help you.
Can I print from a laptop?
Yes. The laptop is configured to use the mabcoin1 printer service. All print jobs should be sent to the mabpool central printing station located behind the Reference Desk on the main floor. You must release and then retrieve your print job at the mabpool printing station. At this time the main floor print station is the only print station available in Mabee Library.
What if I return the laptop late or damaged?
Due to their limited number and high cost, special fines and fees apply to laptops returned late or damaged. A $20 late charge is assessed for each hour. Any laptop or accessory not returned before the library closes will be considered lost. You will be responsible for the appropriate replacement charges and a non-refundable $25 processing fee. Fines and fees are billed to your student account.
Where can I go for help using the laptop?
Bring the laptop to the Reference/Circulation/Course Reserves desk. The staff member there will assist you.
