Washburn students and faculty may search the Washburn University Libraries' databases to find journal articles from any computer with Internet access. To access restricted resources from off campus, you will be prompted to enter your name and WIN.
If the Mabee Library does not have access to a particular article or book, you may request a copy through Interlibrary Loan. This free service normally takes 2-3 days for journals and 2-7 days for books.
Searching almost all of the Libraries' databases will give you a series of results that will allow you access to the full-text of the articles that you find. You can also print the articles or email them to yourself.
Below is a link to multiple databases focusing on PTA and related fields which can help you focus your search results. Your search will probably result in hundreds of articles so remember that you will need to narrow your topic. Some search strategies include "evidence-based medicine," "physical therapy for children," and "hydrotherapy." Each database has its own method for doing this so look carefully.
The best source for recent research in a field are articles from journals and magazines. Most cutting-edge research in the field of physical therapy will appear in journals first.
Peer-reviewed journals, also called scholarly or refereed journals, are a great source of authoritative information. Articles in a refereed journal are reviewed and evaluated by experts in the field prior to publication. This process assures the reader that the content is reliable and timely. Articles from scholarly journals often provide the most current and detailed information on a topic.
Journal articles on specific topics can be found by searching the library's electronic databases.Electronic databases make it easy to find peer-reviewed articles. Most databases have a box you can check to limit your results to peer-reviewed publications.
Please note: Electronic databases describe what has been published, not what Mabee Library owns.
