The Center for Kansas Studies is dedicated to encouraging Kansas Studies by offering courses in the Kansas Studies Program, by creating resources and providing information about Kansas resources at Washburn University and around the state, by offering programming on Kansas topics, and by providing outreach programs that focus on the past, present and future of Kansas.

The University Libraries support the study, teaching and research mission of the Center by collecting materials in a variety of formats concerning the human and natural history and culture of Kansas.  The Libraries collection supports these interdisciplinary studies by acquiring resources which cover the geographic areas of Kansas, the Great Plains and the area formerly contained in the Kansas Territory.

The collections of the University Libraries currently contain over 2,500 books, 250 videos/DVDs, 150 maps, 175 theses and dissertations as well as 25 journal/magazine titles that deal with Kansas and the Great Plains.  These collections are constantly being expanded as new resources are identified.
