Kristen Grimmer [Faculty Profile]

Assistant Professor, Mass Media

Mass Media

OER Adopted:

I adapted my Public Relations 1 and my Media Law, Ethics, and Diversity classes to OER. I found several resources through the Open Education LibGuide that Amanda put together. Through those sites, I was able to access several textbooks that worked well for my students and I cobbled together chapters from different texts to achieve my learning objectives.

Student Impact:

I think this has helped give equity to my students. There are many who are unable to afford expensive course materials and I firmly believe in helping remove as many barriers as possible from my classes so that my students can have unfettered access to learning.

The Future:

I will continue to use OER for other classes I am developing and I would eventually like all my classes to be able to make the transition to OER because I believe that this is one way we can encourage student retention.
