OER Adopted:
I adapted to OER my Presidential Elections class, which I teach every four years in the fall of a presidential election year. Students were assigned a swing state and analyzed the polling and presidential campaigning in their swing state by using three sources: For polling and analytical articles on the campaigns, they used fivethirtyeight.com and realclearpolitics.com. For campaign TV ads they used youtube. Finally, to track TV ad spending in their state, they used the FCC website for their assigned TV station.
Student Impact:
This grant and OER had a significant impact on my students as the class was turned from a traditional "read books and articles and attend lectures" into an interactive learning experience using real-time data as the campaign proceeded. The grant stimulated this professor into taking the plunge and dramatically changing the class. The students indicated to me that they really liked the more experiential and real-time aspect of tracking the polling and the campaigns in their swing states.
The Future:
I teach a mock United Kingdom Parliament class every few years. I am considering making that OER and changing it to be much more real-time tracking and studying like I did in my Presidential Elections class.
