APA 7 Basic Format for Webpages

Citation for websites done by a group or corporation:
Corporation/Group/Organization's Name. (Year webpage was last updated/published, Month Day if given). Title of page: Subtitle (if any). URL

Citation for websites done by an individual:

Author's Last Name, First Initial. Middle Initial if Given. (Year webpage was last updated/published, Month Day if given). Title of page: Subtitle

(if any). Website Name. URL

Key notes for webpages:

  • Author format is similar to all other reference types
  • Date format includes the Month (Written out in its full form and not abbreviated "September" instead of "Sept) and the day.
    • Example: (2022, February 2)
  • Title of website or web article is in italics.
  • The publication name is written after the title. This is usually proper noun and is Capitalized.
    • This can be omitted if the publication name is redundant to the author.
  • Paste the URL at the end of the citations. Do no use "retrieved from"

In-text Citations:

  • In-text citations follow much the same format for Parenthetical and Narrative citations as other formats.
    • Author's Last name or the Author of the Webpage, and the year published or updated are the main components.
      • Parenthetical citation: Narrative citation:
(Washburn University, 2022) Washburn University (2022)
        (Farley, 2022) Farley (2022)

  • Organizations that have an author that uses an acronym should be written out in full the first time, and abbreviated thereafter.
    • Academic College of Research and Libraries (ACRL, 2022)
      • or (Academic College of Research & Libraries [ACRL], 2022)
